Craftsman 34260 260-Piece Mechanics Tool Set review

Craftsman 34260 260-Piece Mechanics Tool Set

Though not all people are mechanics, it can be easily said that any of us would find good use for a set of tools which a mechanic would own. Craftsman is known throughout much of the world - though the only brick and mortar stores where the brand can be purchased are located in the United States and labeled “Sears” - as a manufacturer of good quality tools with a simple and honest lifetime warranty. Many a home mechanic has relied on the Craftsman 34260 260-piece Mechanic’s Tool Set for everything from minor upgrades around the house to full-on engine rebuilds.

Craftsman likes to say that they only use materials which meet a rigorous standard which they require in order to maintain their lifetime warranty, and there is little reason to doubt this. Just remember that the guarantee is for the tools, nothing else. They do make the contents of the 34260 mechanic’s set of the usual high-end chrome-alloy with a high level of attention to detail. This compilation features 149 different sockets in Metric and SAE sizes, deep and shallow depths, and divided between ¼, ½, and 3/8-inch drive sizes for the three identically-sized quick-release ratchets which work with an additional 22 screwdriver and nut bits and 40 hex keys. Ten combination wrenches each of Metric and SAE denominations reside alongside these within the plastic, three-drawer, portable carrying case included with the Craftsman model 34260 mechanic’s tool set.

The full list of included goods is as follows:

Each one of the tools included in the Craftsman 34260 mechanic’s tool set is backed by the universal lifetime warranty which guarantees that any tool which fails will be replaced free of charge at locations all over North America (sorry, rest of the world, mail order is your only option). The idea here, though, is for the tools to hold up to the rigors of the job, so do they?

Yes, so far. The implements included with Craftsman 34260 mechanic’s tool set are well-made, easy to use and have a good feel when put to use. The socket set is quite extensive and very inclusive so it is a rare job which forces a search beyond what is at hand. Each of the adapters is sturdy and fit right, the various keys are up to the task and very useful, combination wrenches are durable and within spec, and the spark plug sockets fit as designed. One big shortcoming of this set is the Craftsman-standard sub-standard plastic tool case; it is made of a cheap material and is not up to the task of carrying the tools anywhere – if you use it, you will need to leave it in one spot which does not itself move. Otherwise, get your own tool chest and pick up the Craftsman 34260 260-piece mechanic’s tool set and you will have a complete kit for working on whatever project you do next.
